ULTIMED ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF ULTIGUARD FOR PEN NEEDLES
ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA – August 11, 2005 – UltiMed has launched the design phase for UltiGuard pen needles. Like UltiGuard syringes, UltiGuard pen needles will be sold in a dual-use container which is a dispenser as well as a sharps container. The design phase will include input from diabetic educators, pen needle users and experts in industrial design, injection molding, automated packaging and manufacturing.
Tom Erickson, UltiMed’s CEO said, “Pen injection for insulin has surpassed injection with syringes in Europe, Japan and Canada. The use of pen injection is predicted to increase dramatically in the U.S. Because accidental pen needle sticks and the safe disposal of used pen needles has turned into a major social issue, UltiMed must accelerate the development and market introduction of UltiGuard and private label UltiGuard pen needles.”
